On the night of August 25, two regions of Russia were hit at once — Rostov Oblast and Krasnodar Krai. In Novoshakhtinsk, there were reports of a possible attack on the refinery, and a fire broke out in the area of the Afipsky oil refinery after explosions.

This was reported by Russian Telegram channels and OSINT publics. Later, the damage to the refinery in the Krasnodar Territory was confirmed by the governor of the region, Veniamin Kondratyev.

The first reports of the attack appeared at around 02:10. According to OSINT channels, the explosions occurred near the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery in the Rostov region. Previously, the enterprise could have been attacked by drones. However, there was no official confirmation at that time.

At around 03:40, reports of explosions began coming in from Krasnodar Krai. Local residents reported loud noises, followed by reports of a fire near the Afipsky refinery.

Subsequently, the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratyev, confirmed that the territory of the oil refinery was damaged.

According to him, the wreckage of the drone fell on the territory of the Afipska railway station. After that, the enterprise also caught fire.

“The debris of the drone fell on the territory of the Afipskaya railway station… The fire also occurred on the territory of the oil refinery,” Kondratyev said.

The causes and extent of the damage are currently being clarified. Information about possible damage to the Novoshakhtynskyi refinery also needs to be confirmed.

The Afipsky Refinery is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in the Krasnodar Territory and is of great importance for the region’s fuel infrastructure.

As a reminder, the Perm Oil Refinery in Russia stopped operations after an attack by Ukrainian drones on August 21. Two main units at the enterprise are not operating, which together account for about 74% of the plant’s capacity.

As reported, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the facilities of the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region of the Russian Federation on the night of August 22.
