Russia attacked a railway line near Ukraine’s border with Poland, carrying a special train carrying European officials. On board were former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, advisers to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, members of the Bundestag, and European diplomats.
This is reported by Der Spiegel .
According to the publication, the train was traveling from Kyiv to Poland after the conclusion of the YES international conference. Among the passengers was the German Chancellor’s foreign and security advisor, Gunther Sautter, who had participated in negotiations in Kyiv the day before regarding possible peace talks with Russia.
At around 5:00 a.m., the train was stopped near the Polish border due to drone strikes in the border area. Some passengers were evacuated, but after no new drones were detected, the threat was declared over.
On the same railway section, a Russian drone attacked a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw. According to the carrier, the drone hit the locomotive, but no one was injured.
According to Der Spiegel, the special train also included security advisers from other European governments, members of the Bundestag, diplomats and academics. Among them was Green Bundestag member Robin Wagener.
“These drone attacks are blind terror against Ukrainian civilians and a dangerous escalation of Putin’s war,” Wagener said.
An air alert was declared on the Polish side of the border after the attack. The Polish Air Force scrambled fighter jets over fears that some of the drones might enter Polish airspace.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga called the attack on the Yagodyn checkpoint a continuation of Russia’s strikes on the Ukrainian border.
“This is Putin’s terror, which is directly knocking on the doors of the EU and NATO. The Russian barbarians are already at your gates, dear partners,” Sibiga said.
As is known, Russian troops attacked Volyn near the Yagodyn checkpoint on the border with Poland , damaging a gas station and a passenger train locomotive. Falling debris set the gas station and several trucks on fire, but no one was injured.
By the way, Russian troops attacked railway infrastructure in various regions of Ukraine on September 13. Due to strikes, evacuations, and detours, a significant number of trains are delayed for several hours.
