Russia attacked Ukraine with 570 targets: how the air defense system responded

On the night of July 2, Russian forces launched one of the largest air attacks on Ukraine, using 74 missiles and 496 drones of various types. Kyiv was the primary target.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this.

According to military data, the attack was characterized by the simultaneous use of various types of air attack weapons from several directions, as well as the massive use of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

In general, Russia released:

  • 4 anti-ship missiles 3M22 “Tsirkon”;
  • 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;
  • 34 X-101 cruise missiles;
  • 8 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 4 guided air missiles Kh-59/69;
  • 496 Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas attack drones, Banderol ammunition, and Parodiya drone imitators.

Aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned aerial systems, and mobile fire teams of the defense forces were deployed to repel the attack.

As of 9:00 a.m., according to preliminary data, Ukrainian air defense forces have neutralized 524 air targets. Among them:

  • 4 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;
  • 32 X-101 cruise missiles;
  • 8 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 4 guided air missiles Kh-59/69;
  • 476 drones of different types.

Meanwhile, 25 ballistic missile strikes and 12 attack drones were recorded at 33 locations. Debris from downed aerial targets fell at another 18 locations. The Air Force added that information about several missile strikes was being clarified, and the air attack was still ongoing as of this morning, with several enemy attack drones remaining in the sky.
