Russia attacked Ukraine with 64 drones: how it worked out its air defense

On the night of Thursday, July 17, the Russian occupiers launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, using 64 Shahed-type strike drones and several imitation drones of various models. Ukrainian air defense forces were able to destroy 36 of them.

According to a message from the Air Force Command on social media, the attacks began at around 8:30 p.m. on July 16. The enemy drones were launched from Russian territory – from the directions of Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

A total of 59 drones belonged to the Shahed type, which became the enemy’s main strike force. The main target of the attack was the Dnipropetrovsk region.

As of the morning of July 17, air defenses had repelled most of the attack – 36 Shahed drones had been shot down on the northern and eastern borders of the country. Another five imitation drones were disabled by electronic means.

At the same time, the enemy was able to inflict damage: 23 hits were recorded in five different points.

As a reminder, as of the morning of July 17, Russia has lost about 1,038,650 military personnel since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Over the course of the day, the enemy’s losses in manpower reached 1,190 people.

As reported, over the past 24 hours, 160 combat clashes have occurred on the Russian-Ukrainian front . The hottest situation remains in the Pokrov direction.
