Russia attacks civilian ship in Black Sea with missiles: five people killed, five more missing

Russian forces launched a missile strike on the civilian dry cargo ship GOLDEN LEO, which was carrying grain and was leaving the combat zone. The attack killed 5 people, and 5 more crew members are missing.

According to the Ukrainian Navy, the Russian occupiers fired 3 Kh-59/Kh-69 cruise missiles at the civilian cargo ship GOLDEN LEO, flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and owned by a Turkish owner. At the time of the attack, the ship was moving out of the combat zone with a cargo of grain.

The missiles hit the starboard side of the superstructure, causing a fire on the ship. According to preliminary data, 5 people were killed , 5 more crew members are missing , and the search for them is ongoing. The technical condition of the ship is currently being clarified.

Units of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Maritime Search and Rescue Service were involved in the rescue operation. As of 20:30, 8 crew members were evacuated to one of the hospitals in Odessa.

The Ukrainian Navy stressed that this was another targeted attack by Russia on an unarmed civilian vessel under a foreign flag that did not pose any military threat. “The attack is an act of terror against peaceful navigation and a gross violation of international humanitarian law,” the Ukrainian Navy said.
