Russia begins closing largest port at night due to threat of UAV attacks

Russia has imposed a nighttime ban on vessel traffic to and from the port of Novorossiysk. The restrictions are in effect daily from midnight to 5:00 a.m. and are related to the threat of attacks by Ukrainian drones.

This was reported by Reuters, citing sources in the grain industry.

According to the agency’s interlocutors, the decision was made verbally, without an official document for the shipowners.

As noted, the port operates normally during the day, and grain exports are currently continuing unchanged.

Novorossiysk is Russia’s largest port by cargo volume. It handles about a third of Russia’s grain exports, as well as oil, metals and container cargo. The port has previously been restricted after attacks on infrastructure.

According to Reuters, the nighttime ban was another step against the backdrop of increased attacks on Russian port infrastructure in the Black and Azov Seas.

In addition, on July 21, the Russian government imposed additional restrictions on ships in the ports of Azov and Kavkaz. In particular, they were prohibited from anchoring in areas not covered by air defense systems.

As a reminder, the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert “Magyar” Brovdy, announced the destruction of Russian military facilities during the attack on Novorossiysk on the night of May 23. The frigate “Admiral Essen”, a Project 1239 missile carrier, and the oil storage facility “Grushovaya Balka” were hit.

By the way, on the night of June 8 , drones attacked facilities in Novorossiysk . As a result of the strike, a tank farm on the territory of the “Grushovaya” industrial site, which is part of the “Sheskharis” transshipment complex, caught fire.
