President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian troops ignored the United States’ request and violated the agreement to temporarily pause strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities on the fourth day.
The head of state stated this during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to Zelensky, the de facto pause in energy attacks began on the night of Friday, January 30.
“And last night, the Russians, in our view, broke their promise. That is, either Russia believes a week is four days instead of seven, or they deliberately bet on war and waited for the coldest days this winter, when temperatures in a significant part of Ukraine dropped below minus 20 degrees,” the president emphasized.
He emphasized that the attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure “directly violates what the American side agreed upon” and clearly demonstrates Russia’s true intentions.
Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine will engage with the United States on this matter and is counting on its partners’ response. “I hope that our partners will not remain silent and will continue to support the defense of our state and our people,” he concluded.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the agreement on a so-called “energy truce” with Russia for the winter cold period.
Earlier, it was reported that People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko confirmed that Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement on an “energy truce.”
As is known, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on information circulating online about an alleged “energy truce” between Ukraine and Russia.
