Russia celebrates occupation: TOT launches large-scale campaign on anniversary of “referendums”

In the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Russia has launched a large-scale information campaign on the anniversary of the illegal pseudo-referendums. Kremlin-controlled media are trying to present the occupation as a “holiday” and a period of supposedly large-scale positive changes.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to the Central Propaganda Center, Russian propaganda resources are actively promoting materials dedicated to events four years ago and are trying to legitimize the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories.

In such stories, the occupation media talk about alleged “revolutionary changes,” “reconstruction of infrastructure,” assistance from Russian regions, and long-term plans for the development of the occupied territories.

At the same time, as the Center emphasizes, Russian propaganda is hushing up the consequences of the invasion – destroyed cities, the death of civilians, and humanitarian problems caused by the occupation.

The CPD believes that the goal of such a campaign is to displace mentions of the real cost of Russian aggression from the information space and to consolidate among the population the version of events imposed by the Kremlin.

Earlier, the Russian Federation intensified pre-election propaganda in the temporarily occupied territories . According to the Central Intelligence Agency, the occupation authorities used demonstration improvement projects to create the information image needed by the Kremlin.

In addition, Russia imposes a distorted version of Ukrainian history on children in the occupied territories . The CPR noted that education at TOT is being used as a tool of assimilation and propaganda.
