The last power unit in the Chernihiv region was destroyed by Russian strikes about two weeks ago. The attack severely damaged the substation, leading to hours-long power outages in the region.
This is reported by The Guardian .
According to journalists, the substation was previously fortified with two concrete walls. However, they did not have time to put a roof on it, as construction required significant time and money, and the risk of new attacks was increasing every day.
It was on this facility that Russia launched a series of strikes with Shahed suicide drones. For three days, the drones attacked the substation until one of the transformers exploded. The moment of the explosion was filmed by the Russian military with a reconnaissance drone and published online.
Attempts by Ukrainian military to shoot down subsequent Shaheds with small arms proved fruitless. During one of the attacks, two energy workers returning from another damaged facility were killed.
Due to the extensive destruction, residents of Chernihiv and the region are forced to live in a regime of long-term power outages. Local residents say that they are without electricity for at least 14 hours a day. Elevators and water pumps in high-rise buildings are not working, and the upper floors remain without water.
People are forced to use inviolability points, where they can charge their phones, connect to Starlink, and get a hot drink. Despite the cold and constant shocks, residents of Chernihiv region emphasize that the main thing is to persevere and maintain faith in the restoration of the power system.
It was previously reported that Russian troops carried out drone strikes in the Chernihiv region , damaging an educational institution and residential infrastructure in the region.
Recall that Russia continues to purposefully attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure , trying to make parts of the country uninhabitable. The Kremlin’s goal is to destroy energy networks, cause a humanitarian crisis, and provoke mass emigration.
By the way, Russia has revised its tactics of shelling Ukrainian energy infrastructure and is currently not trying to destroy the system all at once, but is seeking to gradually disable it.
