In Chernivtsi, during the autopsy of the body of a deceased soldier, who was transferred to the Russian Federation as part of an exchange, a grenade was found.
This was stated by the head of the regional bureau of forensic medical examination, Viktor Bachynskyi, Suspilne reports.
It should be noted that this is the first time such an incident has occurred. However, there have been previous cases where explosives were found, but not in the body itself.
It is known that the experts who conducted the autopsy were evacuated.
According to Bachynsky, explosives were mostly found in pockets, but in the last case, a grenade was found under the skin.
As the head of the examination bureau clarified, it was a grenade from a hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher.
“This happened three weeks ago. The grenade flew through the abdominal cavity, passed through the body, but did not explode – it remained under the right thigh,” the material notes.
“When the expert began the autopsy of the deceased’s body, performed an autopsy of the cranial cavity, chest cavity, reached the limb and began to cut it open, he found an unexploded grenade under the skin,” says Bachynsky.
“It was taken to a landfill, blown up there, and it could have exploded in the morgue. That’s why, because of such cases, we first have pyrotechnicians, the State Emergency Service, and only then we. This is a very serious approach, but it so happened that they did not immediately determine that such an explosive device was in the body of the deceased,” says Bachynsky.
