Russia has postponed the date for the complete capture of Donbas to April 2026. According to analysts, at the current pace of the offensive, these plans remain unrealistic.
This is reported by the New York Post .
Analysts note that to achieve its stated goal, Russia needs to establish control over approximately 21% of the territory of Donbas.
At the same time, Pokrovsk, which Russian troops have been storming for almost 2 years with the involvement of over 150,000 soldiers, is still not under full Russian control.
Against this background, analysts indicate that Vladimir Putin is trying to create the impression of the imminent collapse of Ukrainian defense in order to influence the international community, in particular US President Donald Trump, in order to put pressure on Ukraine.
According to the publication, such statements do not correspond to the real situation on the front, since Ukraine’s defensive lines remain stable, and the advance of Russian troops is slow.
Analysts also note that despite Russia’s numerical superiority and Ukraine’s resource difficulties, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to restrain the offensive and inflict significant losses on the Russian army.
It was previously reported that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin stated that during negotiations with the United States, Russia continues to demand the complete transfer of the territory of Donbas to it , despite the fact that it does not control it militarily.
Recall that US President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday to discuss a peace plan. The discussions will include a temporary ceasefire necessary for a referendum on the status of certain territories.
