Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department of the Ukrainian Air Force, said that Russia could repeat a massive combined strike on Ukraine in the near future. According to him, during the July 6 attack, the greatest threat was posed by ballistic missiles, to intercept which Ukraine needs additional Patriot systems and missiles for them.

He spoke about this on the air of a national telethon.

Ignat noted that on the eve of the massive attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of the threat and emphasized the need to strengthen air defense.

“Of course, they were preparing for the attack… You can see how many times the president mentioned Patriot in yesterday’s address. A great emphasis was placed on air defense…”, Ignat said.

According to him, during the attack, Russia used 23 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, as well as Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles, which move on a ballistic trajectory. He emphasized that only Patriot systems and their analogues can counter such targets.

“Today, 23 Iskander M/S-400 missiles and Zircon/Onyx are anti-ship missiles that the enemy launches from the north, they also operate on a ballistic trajectory. Only Patriot missiles and their analogues can counter such missiles,” Ignat said.

The Air Force representative noted that Russia has the resources to produce ballistic missiles and can increase their production. In addition, he said, the enemy is increasing the use of strike drones with improved characteristics, including those resistant to electronic warfare, as well as jet drones.

At the same time, Ignat reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces managed to destroy a significant number of strike drones and cruise missiles, and all sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles were intercepted.

“All the hits, the destruction that happened now in Kyiv are all due to ballistics,” Ignat said.

Commenting on the frequency of Russian attacks, an Air Force representative stated that the enemy has changed tactics and may launch a new massive strike without a long pause.

“They can strike the next day. We must be prepared for such options that the enemy may repeat the attack. There is no need to ignore the air alert. But their capabilities are not limitless. If they had the opportunity to shell us every day, they would do it,” Ignat said.

By the way, on the night of July 6, Russia carried out a massive combined strike on Ukraine , using 68 missiles of various types and 351 drones. Air defense forces destroyed 363 air targets, but failed to intercept a single ballistic missile.

As is known, on the night of July 6, Russia launched a massive missile strike on Kyiv . The attack affected the Holosiivskyi, Podolskyi, Darnytskyi, and Obolonskyi districts of the capital, with fatalities and dozens of injuries.
