Russia has deployed units with “Oreshnik” in Belarus: the GUR assessed the threat

Russia has deployed units of the 101st Missile Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces, armed with the Oreshnik medium-range missile system, to the territory of Belarus. At the same time, there are currently no signs of Belarus preparing to directly enter the war against Ukraine.

This was stated by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Oleg Ivashchenko, in an interview with Ukrinform .

According to him, the GUR is monitoring Russia’s attempts to drag Belarus into the war against Ukraine and use its territory and military resources to expand the geography of hostilities.

“We are monitoring the attempts of the Russian leadership to directly involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine. We know that Moscow seeks to use Belarusian territory and military resources to expand the geography of hostilities against Ukraine,” Ivashchenko noted.

At the same time, the head of the GUR emphasized that there are currently no signs of Belarus preparing to enter the war. According to him, the level of military threat to Ukraine from the Belarusian direction is assessed as low.

Ivashchenko also reported that Belarus has allowed the placement of radio signal repeaters on its territory, which are used to control Russian Shahed strike UAVs.

“We are concerned about Belarus’ permission to deploy radio signal repeaters on its territory, which target Russian Shahed strike UAVs at Ukrainian civilian objects and critical infrastructure. We also note the deployment on the territory of Belarus of units of the 101st Missile Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces, which is armed with the Oreshnik medium-range missile system,” the head of the GUR noted.

According to Ivashchenko, if Belarus did not grant permission for the deployment of such facilities, this may indicate that Minsk no longer controls Russia’s activities on its own territory.

Recall that in the Gomel region of Belarus, near the Ukrainian border, a railway infrastructure is being built that will allow for the rapid unloading of heavy wheeled and tracked vehicles from military trains.

It was previously reported that Russia may have only one combat-ready Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile left after a series of launches against Ukraine . Analysts believe that Moscow may have used up most of its stock of such missiles.
