Russia has imposed strict restrictions on movement near the border with Estonia: Tallinn has reacted

Russia has temporarily tightened the regime in the border zone near Estonia. Nighttime restrictions on movement and other prohibitions are in effect in certain areas until September 26.

This is reported by the Estonian broadcaster ERR.

The restrictions are in effect from September 16 to 26 in a five-kilometer border strip of the Kingiseppsky and Slantsevsky districts of the Leningrad region.

It is forbidden to be outside the borders of settlements, including by transport, after dark. Hunting and carrying firearms have also been banned in the border zone.

Separate restrictions apply to the Narva River. Small vessel traffic is prohibited in a designated area, and people are prohibited from staying on part of the Russian shore.

The Russian side explained the measures introduced by the need to prevent violations of the border and migration regimes and to strengthen the protection of the state border.

Andris Viltsin, a representative of the Estonian Border Guard Service, said that such measures are not ordinary, but they cannot be called exceptional either. According to him, the Russian side may be concerned about the security of its border.

At the same time, Estonia emphasizes that the assessment of the threat to the country has not changed and there are no grounds for retaliatory measures.
