Russia has increased its military presence in the Baltic Sea: a missile frigate has arrived there

Russia is increasing its military presence in the Baltic Sea. The modern missile frigate “Admiral Kasatonov” from the Russian Northern Fleet has arrived there.

This is reported by the German publication Bild.

According to journalists, a few days earlier, the Russian warship Admiral Levchenko had entered the Baltic Sea. Later, the Admiral Kasatonov was also spotted in the region.

The frigate was commissioned into the Russian fleet in 2020. It belongs to the Admiral Gorshkov class and, according to Bild, is capable of launching Caliber and Zircon cruise missiles.

The ship was recently used to escort and provide security for Russian cargo ships in the Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel area.

Bild notes that the strengthening of the Russian military group in the Baltic Sea comes after Vladimir Putin’s threats to Western countries. The Russian leader stated the possibility of a “mirror” response if Western countries begin to seize the ships of the Russian “shadow fleet” and confiscate their property.

Maritime security expert Moritz Brake believes that in this way the Kremlin is trying to create additional uncertainty and increase the cost of countering the Russian “shadow fleet.”
