Russia has upgraded its Iskander-M and Kinzhal ballistic missiles, making them more difficult for American Patriot air defense systems to intercept.
The Financial Times writes about this, citing its own sources.
According to the publication, after launch, the missiles initially follow a typical trajectory, but in the final stages are capable of changing course, diving sharply, or performing maneuvers. This allows them to evade air defenses.
A report by the Special Inspector General of the US Defense Intelligence Agency for the period from April 1 to June 30 noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces “had difficulty consistently using Patriots due to Russian tactical improvements.”
At the same time, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, the ballistic missile downing rate increased to 37% in the summer. However, in September, it dropped to 6%, despite the number of launches that month being lower.
