The number of Russian hybrid attacks in Europe has increased rapidly since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The main targets have been energy, transport and communications.
This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
“Over 200 incidents were documented from 2014 to 2024, from sabotage and disinformation to cyberattacks and electronic GPS jamming. Over 86% occurred after 2022, and in 2024 alone, six times more than in the previous year,” the SZR noted.
It is noted that since the beginning of 2025, attacks on submarine cables and water supply facilities in Europe have been recorded, as well as attempts to influence air traffic in the EU.
According to intelligence statistics, an average of 20 European countries were attacked annually in 2022-2024.
“The most frequently attacked countries are those that actively support Ukraine – in particular, Poland, the Baltic countries, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, and Norway,” the intelligence service noted.
The Russian Federation is conducting such operations in order to weaken European solidarity and reduce support for Kyiv by provoking internal problems.
It was previously reported that the United Kingdom has imposed sanctions against the Russian GRU for conducting a long-term campaign of cyber activity and a number of war crimes .
By the way, Poland complained about large-scale Russian interference in the presidential election . They stated that the Russians were spreading disinformation and attacking the country’s critical infrastructure.
