Russia imposes distorted history of Ukraine on children in occupied territories – CPD

Russia has approved new history textbooks for schoolchildren in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. They include a Russian propaganda version of the history of Ukrainian regions.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

The day before, the Russian Ministry of Education approved an updated list of school textbooks. It added publications on the history of the so-called “regions reunited with Russia.”

In particular, the Russians have prepared textbooks on the history of the so-called “Donbass and Novorossiya” for students in grades 5-7. They present a history of the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories distorted by Russian propaganda.

The CPD noted that the Kremlin is systematically changing educational programs in the occupied territories in order to spread Russian propaganda among children and displace Ukrainian identity.

Previously, Russia had already included propaganda theses in history, social studies, and Russian literature textbooks.

In addition, in occupied schools, the Russians conduct so-called “educational activities,” during which they also impose Kremlin propaganda on children.

The Center emphasized that Russia uses education in the occupied territories as a tool for assimilating Ukrainian children.

“Under Russian rule, educational institutions in the TOT of Ukraine are finally turning into a tool for brainwashing and assimilation of Ukrainian children, in whom the Kremlin sees its future mobilization resource,” the CPD noted.
