Russia is systematically increasing the use of chemical agents on the front, trying to break Ukraine’s resistance and force it to surrender.
This was stated by the European Union’s chief diplomat, Kaia Kallas, Politico reports.
After a meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states in Brussels, Kallas told reporters that at least 9,000 cases of the use of chemical agents by Russian forces have been recorded since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to her, these alarming statistics are based on data from German and Dutch intelligence agencies, which indicate a trend towards an increase in chemical attacks, which is causing deep concern in European capitals.
“This indicates Russia’s desire to inflict maximum pain and suffering on the Ukrainian people in order to force them to surrender. And this is truly… unbearable,” Kallas stressed.
She emphasized that the active use of prohibited weapons of mass destruction should be the subject of a serious international response.
Recall that, according to Dutch intelligence services, the Russian military is actively using chemical agents against Ukrainian defenders, in particular, dropping poisonous mixtures from drones to force soldiers out of fortifications.
