Russia has intensified its attacks on Odessa, trying to undermine Ukraine’s economic stability and hit export logistics.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The publication notes that amid Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States, the number of drone attacks on port infrastructure has increased sharply and reached record levels. Russian troops are attacking Odessa virtually daily, focusing on ports, warehouses, energy facilities, and transport infrastructure.

Throughout December, Odesa remained one of the main targets of Russian strikes. The shelling damaged port facilities, warehouses, residential buildings, and energy infrastructure. There were deaths and injuries. The attacks left the city without electricity, heating, and water for several days, which made the situation especially difficult in winter.

Analysts explain that Odesa is crucial for Ukrainian exports, and the strikes on the city are part of a broader Russian strategy to reduce Ukraine’s economic potential. It is through the southern ports that a significant part of foreign trade passes.

Russia is carrying out a significant portion of its attacks from temporarily occupied Crimea, which complicates the work of Ukrainian air defenses. At the same time, the intensification of strikes in southern Ukraine is taking place in parallel with US diplomatic efforts to find ways to end the war.

As previously reported, on December 22, Russian occupiers struck Odessa twice during the night, attacking the city’s critical infrastructure.

Recall that near the Odessa beaches of Delfin and Langeron, pollution similar to oil was recorded, as well as dead birds.
