Russia is deceivingly recruiting Crimean residents into the army — CPD

Russia is using deception and manipulation to recruit residents of temporarily occupied Crimea into its army. People are promised safe service close to home, but in reality, things are different.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to the department, the occupation structures are actively offering Crimeans contract service, in particular in unmanned systems units that are allegedly deployed on the peninsula.

“The occupation structures promise local residents “service at home”… This approach gives the illusion of security,” the CPD notes.

However, after signing the contract, these promises are not fulfilled.

“In practice, people are being sent outside Crimea to participate in hostilities against Ukraine,” the report notes.

The Center explains that in this way Russia is trying to replenish its army amid heavy losses.

“Russia is deliberately misleading people,” the department emphasizes.

They also remind us that the mobilization of the population in the occupied territories contradicts the norms of international humanitarian law.

The Center adds that such a practice shows Russia’s real attitude towards the residents of the occupied territories.

“In fact, this demonstrates the treatment of people as a resource… people are being tricked into joining the war,” the report says.

Recall that the Russians are actively using their presence in the countries of the Global South to recruit mercenaries for the war against Ukraine.
