Russia is doing everything to disrupt the meeting at the leadership level – Zelensky

Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russia is doing everything to prevent his meeting with Vladimir Putin from taking place.

He said this during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The President of Ukraine noted that now it is necessary to do everything possible to ensure that the Russian Federation agrees to a meeting of leaders, and also called for increased pressure on Russia, including additional sanctions.

“It is at the level of leaders that the issue of ending the war should be resolved. But the Russians are doing everything to prevent the meeting. But Ukraine is not afraid of any meetings,” the president said.

Zelensky also noted that there will be no agreements with the Russians. He also emphasized that Ukraine, together with its partners, is negotiating with US President Donald Trump.

“He is the only person who can stop Putin today, and we agreed that it was right to move in a diplomatic direction. I supported this direction,” the head of state said.

Zelensky noted that he spoke with Trump about the trilateral meeting that is needed. Trump later spoke with the Russian dictator, after which he said: “Let’s do a bilateral track first – and this is the Russians’ proposal – and then a trilateral one.”

It is worth noting that on Friday, August 22, a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte took place in Kyiv .
