The Kremlin is actively recruiting residents of the Middle East to participate in the war against Ukraine, in particular, the Russian Federation is conducting large-scale campaigns together with Iran.

This was reported by “Ukrainska Pravda” with reference to an interlocutor in the special services.

Russia and Iran are using ISIS militants in the recruitment process. The Russian army mainly recruits citizens from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, and other countries in the region.

Four main routes are used to transfer foreigners to the territory of the Russian Federation:

  • Middle East – Iran – Armenia – Georgia – Russia
  • Middle East – Iran – Azerbaijan – Russia
  • Middle East – Iran – Central Asia – Russia
  • Afghanistan – Central Asia – Russia

Recently, illegal migrants were detained trying to cross state borders in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Central Asian countries. Among them is an Iraqi citizen born in 2006.

As noted, the reason for attracting foreigners is the shortage of personnel in the ranks of the Russian armed forces. Motivation is provided by a cash reward of $3,000-8,000 and promises of Russian citizenship after six months of service.

We will remind, in July, in the Zaporizhia direction , servicemen of the GUR unit “Legion “Freedom of Russia” captured a mercenary from Africa , who joined the ranks of the Russian army.

By the way, the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured Togolese citizens who participated in the war on the side of the Russian army.

Earlier, near Toretsk in the Donetsk region , the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured another Chinese mercenary .

It is known that from April 2023 to May 2024 , Russia recruited more than 1,500 foreign citizens to wage war against Ukraine.
