Russia is building up military infrastructure on its border with Finland. The Finns have responded by starting defensive preparations by lifting the ban on anti-personnel mines.

This was reported by Reuters.

On Wednesday, June 18, Finnish media reported that Russia is actively building new bases and military towns near the border with Finland. Construction of new facilities has begun at the Lupce-Savino garrison, 110 km from the Finnish border.

Previously, the leader of Finland stated that Russia is an aggressive neighbor, and his country must be prepared for aggression.

The Murmansk regional administration said they are building a new military camp for an artillery brigade. The footage also shows significant changes to Russian military facilities on the Karelian Isthmus near Finland.

Also in the Russian city of Petrozavodsk, a new army headquarters is being built, and barracks and railway tracks are being modernized.

Russia plans to deploy several divisions of 10,000 soldiers each at modernized military bases.

The Russians are also building a railway on the border with Finland and Norway and from St. Petersburg to Estonia.

In addition, a train with the latest 152-mm Malva self-propelled guns was recently spotted in Petrozavodsk.

It is worth noting that the Finnish parliament previously approved the country’s withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention, which bans landmines . In the future, the Defense Forces will be allowed to use such weapons.

Russia has reportedly begun an active reconstruction of its military infrastructure near the border with Finland, which is already causing concern among NATO countries. Satellite images show the emergence of new warehouses, the repair of air defense shelters, and the development of previously unused bases.
