Finnish President Alexander Stubb said Russia is not showing a willingness to negotiate peace and plans to continue fighting until at least the fall in order to achieve maximum territorial gains.
He stressed that despite the aggression, the Kremlin had not achieved any of its strategic goals. Moscow’s actions contributed to the unification of Europe and the expansion of NATO by adding Finland and Sweden.
Putin has failed in absolutely all strategic goals. He united Europe, expanded NATO, increased the Alliance’s defense spending from 2% to 5%. If you look at territorial achievements, he has been trying to control the Donetsk region for 12 years, half of which he had before the start of a full-scale war. None of the goals set by the Kremlin have been achieved. This is probably the greatest strategic failure in modern geopolitics,” Stubb emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin could take place in the coming weeks . According to European diplomatic sources, Hungary is being considered as a potential venue for the talks.
Let us recall that multilateral talks involving US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of key European countries have concluded in Washington. The central topic of discussions was the prospect of ending the war in Ukraine and launching a new peace process initiated by Washington.
