Russia is trying to provoke panic due to alleged food shortages – CPD

Russia is trying to provoke panic among Ukrainians through reports of alleged food shortages and push people into mass purchases. At the same time, there is enough food in Ukraine, and the problems with empty shelves in some stores are related to logistics.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation, citing the head of the Center, an officer of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko.

According to him, Russia is systematically attacking Ukrainian logistics and at the same time spreading information about possible food shortages. In this way, Moscow seeks to force Ukrainians to buy more goods than usual, create a stir in stores, and increase psychological pressure on the population.

Kovalenko stressed that there is no reason to panic. He explained the empty shelves that can be seen in some supermarkets by temporary supply problems, not a food shortage in the country.

According to him, logistics routes are being restructured, so the situation should stabilize. As an example, he cited problems with fuel supplies in 2022, when the shortage was overcome after restructuring logistics.

The head of the Central Consumer Protection Agency called on Ukrainians not to panic and not to create artificial excitement in stores. According to him, this is exactly the reaction of the population that Russia is counting on, trying to create the impression that the situation in Ukraine is out of control.

Kovalenko assured that there is enough products, and warehouses are being partially dispersed. Ukraine is also taking additional measures to ensure stable logistics operations.

He added that Russia cannot deprive Ukraine of food production, and the country imports some goods. Therefore, after restructuring logistics, the supply of products to stores will stabilize.
