Kremlin Launches Information Attack on Families of Ukrainian Prisoners

Russia continues to exert informational and psychological pressure on the families of Ukrainian prisoners of war and uses their emotional state to conduct information operations.

This was announced by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

According to him, one of the key tools of the Russian Federation was mass messages and calls to the families of prisoners with offers to supposedly “help” with the exchange.

Instead, the Russian side demands that people take actions that could harm Ukraine.

In particular, families are suggested to send pre-prepared letters to international organizations and government bodies in Ukraine and the United States with false accusations of the Ukrainian authorities’ alleged unwillingness to return prisoners of war.

After that, the Russians demand to send photos of such letters in order to further use them in the international information space as “evidence” against Ukraine.

Lubinets emphasized that such actions are part of a planned information operation by the Russian Federation and have no relation to the actual prisoner exchange processes.

“The enemy is waging war not only on the battlefield—he is trying to strike at what hurts the most: families, trust, and unity,” the ombudsman said.

He called on the families of Ukrainian prisoners of war not to allow themselves to be used in hostile information campaigns.
