Russia launched missiles and 172 drones at Ukraine: how it tested its air defense

Since the evening of September 16, Russian forces have launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, using missiles and strike drones of various types. In response, air defense forces destroyed 136 of the 172 drones that were launched from Russian territory and temporarily occupied Crimea.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Starting at 18:00, the enemy attacked Ukraine with Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles and S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles, as well as 172 strike UAVs, among which Shahed drones predominated. Gerber drones and others were also used.
The launches were carried out from the Kursk, Bryansk, Oryol, Rostov regions of the Russian Federation, Primorsky-Akhtarsk, Millerovoye, as well as from the Chaudy district in occupied Crimea.
Air defense forces were involved in repelling the attack: aviation, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups, and anti-drone equipment.
According to operational data as of 09:30 on September 17, Ukrainian forces have shot down or suppressed 136 drones. At the same time, 36 drones and missiles were recorded hitting 13 objects on the territory of Ukraine.
As a result of the shelling, part of the Kirovohrad region, in particular Kropyvnytskyi and 44 other settlements, were left without electricity.
As a reminder, as of the morning of September 17, Russia has lost about 1,097,450 military personnel since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Over the course of the day, the enemy’s losses in manpower reached 1,020 people.
As reported, over the past 24 hours, 183 combat clashes have occurred on the Russian-Ukrainian front . The hottest situation remains in the Pokrov direction.
