The Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation has begun factory sea trials of the small missile ship “Rzhev”, built under Project 22800 “Karakurt”. The ship is planned to be transferred to the Russian Pacific Fleet.

The start of the testing phase was announced on the official Telegram channel of the USC.

During the sea voyage, specialists will check the operation of the main propulsion system, the functioning of ship-wide systems, as well as the ship’s navigation equipment.

“Rzhev” became the first representative of a series of small missile ships of this project, which are being built at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant, which is part of the USC structure. Project 22800 itself was developed by the Almaz design bureau specifically for the needs of the Russian Navy.

Karakurt-type ships are multi-purpose small missile and artillery vessels of the third rank, designed for operations in the near sea zone. Their main task is to destroy coastal objects and surface targets.

According to Russian media, each ship of this class is equipped with a universal launcher that can use Caliber or Onyx cruise missiles. In addition, the armament includes an artillery mount, machine guns, and the Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun complex.

Recall that Russian forces have begun using long-range drones controlled via fiber-optic communication . This technology makes it difficult to intercept UAVs and poses a serious threat to transport routes and supplies to Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

As reported, the Russian occupation army in Kursk is testing a new drone interception system called “Archangel”.
