Russia “lost the winter offensive”: Zelenskyy announced Ukraine’s successes on the front

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since the beginning of 2026, the Defense Forces have managed to regain control over 460 square kilometers.
He said this in an interview with the Italian publication Corriere Della Serra.
The president emphasized the heavy losses of the Russian army, calling the number “giant.” According to him, the enemy is losing 35,000 soldiers every month.
“Now Putin is going to mobilize 400,000 new soldiers, but his army has stopped growing, losses are equal to new recruits, they are immobilized, close to crisis,” Zelensky noted.
The president added that Russia “lost its winter offensive” despite strikes on the power plant during severe frosts.
“He (Putin – ed.) wanted to divide us, he tried to turn the civilian population against the army to force it to stop fighting. But he failed: with warmer weather, hopes are reborn. Now the Russians will try spring offensives, but I think they will lose again; many soldiers will die in vain,” the head of state explained.
At the same time, he added that the Ukrainian army was facing a shortage of military personnel.
“We are talking about this openly. That is why we want to end the war,” Zelenskyy stressed.
It is worth noting that as of March 2 , the Airborne Assault Forces fighters had liberated nine settlements in the Oleksandrivka direction.
Earlier, Syrskyi stated that during February 2026, Ukrainian troops managed to regain control of more territories than the enemy occupied . Such statistics were recorded for the first time since the Kursk operation.
