This week, one of the Kremlin’s key negotiators, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s confidant Kirill Dmitriev, will arrive in Davos.
According to Euronews, his presence could complicate agreements between Kyiv and Washington on security guarantees for Ukraine.
The annual World Economic Forum in Switzerland traditionally brings together the world’s political and business elite. US President Donald Trump is expected to personally attend the event on Wednesday and deliver a speech. The large American delegation will also include White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is planning to visit Davos, where he could hold talks with Trump about signing security guarantees and a potential ceasefire with Russia. But Dmitriev’s appearance casts doubt on those plans, as Moscow could try to influence the process by showing up first at the summit.
It is noted that back in March 2022, the World Economic Forum suspended official contacts with Russian officials and businessmen, refusing to invite them to its annual meetings. At the same time, the presence of Witkoff and Kushner, who are leading negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, increases expectations about the possible signing of an agreement between Trump and Zelensky.
According to the publication, Dmitriev plans personal meetings with Witkoff and Kushner during his stay in Davos.
Let us remind you that this year Ukraine will participate in the meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos and will be represented there at the highest level.
As reported, Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump intend to meet at the World Economic Forum in Davos to finalize the prosperity agreement . Initially, the Ukrainian side planned a visit to the United States, but European coalition partners advised them to choose a neutral venue in Switzerland.
