Russia may increase espionage activities in Norway

Norway expects increased Russian espionage activity amid support for Ukraine. Russian intelligence services will focus on the Arctic part of the country and the Svalbard archipelago this year.

Reuters reports this.

The Norwegian Internal Security Service noted that Russia is stepping up intelligence in regions of strategic importance. The Russian services will pay particular attention to the northern counties and Spitsbergen, which they consider the most vulnerable.

The security service also expressed concern about possible threats to the country’s energy infrastructure. According to the agency, Russian intelligence may be trying to sabotage or collect data on critical facilities.

The most likely targets of Russian intelligence services in Norway remain real estate and logistical infrastructure related to support for Ukraine. At the same time, risks may also affect civilian infrastructure.

Separately, the security service emphasized that Russian special services are increasingly trying to recruit Ukrainian refugees in Norway to collect intelligence or prepare sabotage operations.

As previously reported, Ukraine is entering a period of difficult fighting: in the coming months, the defense will have to withstand serious pressure from the Russian army.

Recall, British military intelligence reported record losses of the Russian army during a full-scale war.
