Russia continues to strengthen cooperation with North Korea and creates conditions for the possible use of new ballistic missiles against Ukraine. In particular, these are modernized KN-30 missiles, which are capable of carrying super-powerful warheads.

This was reported by analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing data from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

According to the GUR, as of July, Russia had received about 50 ballistic missiles of the KN-23, KN-24, and KN-30 types from the DPRK. At the same time, the Russian military is already deploying six launchers in the Voronezh region. According to intelligence estimates, they can be used to launch up to 120 missiles.

Analysts note that from the territory of the Voronezh region, such missiles are potentially capable of reaching the Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhia regions.

Experts are paying particular attention to the KN-30 missile. It is a modernized version of the KN-23, which can carry a warhead weighing up to 2.5 tons. However, there is currently no evidence of its use against Ukraine.

Military expert Anatoly Khrapchinsky explained that North Korean missiles are inferior to Russian Iskanders in terms of accuracy. While the Iskander-M is capable of hitting targets with an error of several to several dozen meters, the KN-23 missiles can deviate from the target by hundreds of meters or even kilometers.

However, the significantly greater weight of the warhead makes such missiles particularly dangerous. Explosions can cause widespread destruction and powerful shock waves even with less accurate guidance systems.
