Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War said Russia could use the conflict in the Middle East to discredit peace talks over Ukraine. They believe the Kremlin may be trying to shift responsibility for the possible failure of the talks onto the United States.

This is stated in the ISW report.

The report notes that Russian officials are criticizing the United States for military operations in Iran and using this topic for an information campaign around negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine.

Thus, on March 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the United States and Israel were trying to drag the Persian Gulf countries into the conflict.

“The US and Israel are trying to drag the Gulf countries into the conflict in the same way that the West allegedly dragged Ukraine into the conflict with Russia,” said Sergey Lavrov.

According to Lavrov, many Russian politicians, political scientists, and analysts are expressing concern that the United States is conducting military operations against states with which it is simultaneously negotiating, as well as how this could affect peace talks on Ukraine.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War note that other Russian officials are also using the American operation against Iran to discredit the negotiation process regarding Ukraine.

The report emphasizes that the Kremlin has been dragging out peace talks for a long time.

“Russia is not interested in agreements that do not meet its initial requirements. At the same time, it has to act carefully to avoid US sanctions or other pressures that would force serious negotiations,” the analysts noted.

The report also states that the Kremlin is forced to balance relations with the United States and ties with allies and partners, including Iran.

“Russia may use direct critical statements about the US as an unreliable negotiating partner to deflect responsibility in the event of a future failure of negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine,” concluded analysts at the Institute for the Study of War.

Earlier, diplomat Valeriy Chaly said that Ukraine is being prepared for a major economic redistribution under the mysterious name of the “prosperity package” . Is the fate of our territories really being decided behind the scenes of negotiations in Geneva and Abu Dhabi, while US President Donald Trump is in a hurry to end the war by the US anniversary?

We will remind, bilateral negotiations between Ukraine and the USA have ended in Geneva. The parties are already preparing the next round, which may take place in a trilateral format with the participation of the Russian Federation. The day before, Bloomberg, citing officials from Europe and NATO, reported that the White House insists on concluding a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine by July 4 – US Independence Day.
