President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia not only rejected the idea of a “Christmas truce,” but also continues to shell Ukraine.
He wrote about this in Telegram.
The President noted that the occupiers attacked the Ukrainian energy sector with missiles and drones, leaving people without electricity.
Zelenskyy thanked Pope Leo XIV for his constant attention to all diplomatic efforts to achieve peace.
He stressed that Ukraine shares the disappointment over the Kremlin’s refusal to accept the recent proposal for a Christmas truce.
“It is important that people around the world do not remain silent. It is important not to allow Russia to normalize cruelty, terror and aggression against our people. I call on all responsible leaders to support peace, as the Pontiff does. We are grateful for every such expression of solidarity,” he added.
Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that he did not rule out the possibility of a temporary ceasefire at Christmas in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
