Russia Captured More Territory Than Ukraine Reclaimed in July, DeepState Says

Russian troops made greater territorial gains than Ukraine’s Defense Forces in July, according to DeepState. Analysts caution, however, that the balance could still shift as some Ukrainian successes have yet to be reflected in the data.

According to analysts, in July, the increase in the territory occupied by Russian troops on the map was 36 square kilometers. At the same time, DeepState notes that due to operational security requirements, the successes of the Ukrainian Defense Forces are reflected with a delay.
In July, the area of occupied territories was reduced by 52 square kilometers, of which 25 square kilometers fell in May and 27 square kilometers in June. Therefore, the actual net increase in occupied territory in July, according to analysts, could be 88 square kilometers.
DeepState also reported that in July there were new successes of the Defense Forces, although they are smaller than in previous months. In addition, in two other areas of the front, the Ukrainian military has achieved success in at least 49 and 83 square kilometers, but these data will be made public after official confirmation.
Analysts note that the most difficult situation remains near Rodynske, Kostyantynivka, along the DCU and in the direction of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, where Russian troops have made minor advances.
“The task of the Katsaps to occupy the entire Donetsk region in 2026 is unrealistic. At the current pace, they will not have a chance in 2027,” DeepState noted.
Analysts also emphasized that the role of infantry has significantly decreased over the past year, and even if massive assaults are resumed, they will no longer be of the same nature as under Kurakhov or Selidov.
