Russia planned to capture another major city along with Kyiv at the beginning of the invasion – Zelensky

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia planned to capture not only Kyiv, but also Kharkiv.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with Stephen Bartlett.

According to the head of state, at the beginning of the invasion, the most powerful Russian group was in eastern Ukraine. It was there that the Ukrainian military concentrated its main forces to deter the enemy.

At the same time, Russian troops launched an offensive on Kyiv from the territory of Belarus. Zelensky noted that this development of events was unexpected, since Ukraine did not have such a powerful military group in this direction.

The President emphasized that Russia had planned to capture several large Ukrainian cities at once, including the capital and Kharkiv. However, the occupiers failed to realize these plans.

As a reminder, on October 17, Zelensky warned of Russia’s intentions to deploy ballistic weapons in Belarus . According to the president, Russian troops are already using Belarusian territory to operate repeaters that help carry out drone attacks.
