Russia plans to open 16 polling stations in Transnistria without Moldova’s consent.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Russia cannot open additional polling stations in Transnistria without the consent of the country’s constitutional authorities. Chisinau considers such actions a violation of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the statement by Vadim Krasnoselsky, the head of the unrecognized Transnistria, about plans to open 17 polling stations in the region for the Russian State Duma elections.

Moldovan diplomats noted that foreign citizens have the right to vote in their own countries’ elections while abroad. However, organizing such voting in Moldova must be coordinated in advance with the constitutional authorities in Chisinau.

According to the agency, the Russian Embassy has already coordinated with Moldovan authorities the opening of one polling station in Chisinau.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Moscow’s intention to open an additional 16 sites in the Transnistrian region without appropriate approval unacceptable.

The Moldovan Foreign Ministry emphasized that such actions contradict the principles of respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
