Russia prepares to extend ban on diesel exports due to strikes on refineries – media

Russia may extend its ban on diesel exports for another month. Moscow is considering such a decision due to problems with oil processing after strikes on Russian refineries.

According to the publication, Russian authorities are already discussing what to do after the current ban ends at the end of September. It could be extended for another month, and if necessary, for a longer period.

Russia began restricting diesel exports in July, after Ukraine launched a series of strikes on Russian refineries, sending the country’s oil refining output to its lowest level in years.

Initially, Moscow planned to keep the ban in place for only a few weeks. But the problems with the refinery persisted, so the restrictions were first extended until the end of August, and then until the end of September.

This is also noticeable for the global market. Before the ban, Russia provided about 10% of the world’s marine diesel supplies.

At the same time, fuel problems have also arisen in the Middle East. This has resulted in a shortage of diesel on the market and difficulty in supplying it.

An additional problem has been the shortage of available supertankers. Due to the high demand for them, transporting oil by sea is becoming more expensive.

If Russia decides to extend the ban again, it will further reduce the amount of diesel available on the global market.
