Moscow responded to US President Donald Trump’s decision to extend sanctions against Russia for another year, calling it “automatic.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated this on February 20 in a comment to Russian propaganda media.
“This continuation is a fairly automatic decision,” he said, adding that Moscow “did not have any inflated expectations on this matter.”
Journalists pointed out to Peskov that the decision to extend the restrictions was made amid negotiations between Moscow and Washington to improve relations. In response, he noted that “the negotiation process is complex and drawn out,” and its results can only be assessed after their completion.
Yesterday, it was announced that Trump extended sanctions against Russia, which expired on March 6. The corresponding document was published in the official US government register. The decision extends a number of restrictions imposed by executive orders of US presidents in 2014, 2018, and 2022.
Ukraine previously imposed new sanctions against Russia. The restrictions targeted the Russian Paralympic Committee, the Russian Esports Federation, and a number of individuals.
As a reminder, the European Union recently imposed personal sanctions against several prominent Russian propagandists . These are TV presenters and journalists who systematically support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
