The upper house of the Russian parliament has approved a law that allows the destruction of “hostile” drones over fuel and energy complex facilities in the Caspian sector.
Reuters reports this.
In the explanatory note, the Russian side acknowledged that drones are the main threat to its economic interests in the region.
This primarily concerns the offshore oil fields of Lukoil—Filanovskoe and Korchaginskoye, which were previously attacked by Ukrainian drones.
Moscow stated that the new law should eliminate the “legal vacuum” in the field of anti-terrorist protection of energy infrastructure.
At the same time, the Russian authorities claim that the document will not restrict civilian shipping and fishing in the Caspian Sea.
It was previously reported that a Moscow oil refinery temporarily stopped processing oil after a drone attack that occurred on May 17.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation, as well as the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station.
