Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Kenya are trying to repatriate their citizens who Russia reportedly tricked or coerced into joining the war against Ukraine. In some cases, foreigners were promised civilian jobs but ended up in the Russian army.

This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev said that his ministry has received information about citizens of the country being forced to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense. Such cases, he said, occur, in particular, in military enlistment offices and pre-trial detention centers.

If information arrives in time, Kyrgyz diplomats try to prevent the country’s citizens from being sent to the front.

Kazakhstan is also negotiating with Russia to return its citizens from the war zone. The diplomatic service is responding to appeals from people who want to return home.

The reason for the appeals was, in particular, cases where men came to Russia to earn money, but ended up in the Russian army. Relatives of one of the Kazakh citizens said that after complaining about working conditions, he and other men were taken to the military registration and enlistment office and forced to sign a military contract.

Kenya is seeking the return of its citizens who fought on the side of Russia and were captured by Ukraine. The country’s Foreign Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, said the men were promised jobs as drivers, security guards or cooks, but instead ended up in the Russian army.

According to the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, cases of foreigners being involved in war provoke a reaction from other governments. Countries raise this issue in negotiations with Russia and try to achieve the return of their citizens.

By the way, according to the “I Want to Live” project, among Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine there are citizens of 55 countries of the world . Thus, approximately every tenth captured Russian soldier has foreign citizenship.
