Russia returned to the G20 meeting: Trump explained Siluanov’s invitation

The administration of US President Donald Trump has invited Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov to a meeting of G20 finance leaders in North Carolina. This is the first time the Russian delegation is participating in a G20 finance ministers’ meeting since the start of a full-scale war.

Siluanov’s presence was not announced in advance, so his appearance caused outrage among European participants. German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil and his colleagues said they would boycott the group photo if the Russian minister joined them.
As a result, Siluanov did not participate in the photo shoot.
US President Donald Trump, commenting on the invitation of the Russian representative, said that Washington wants to maintain good relations with everyone.
“We like to get along with everybody. One of the reasons I’m successful is because I get along with everybody,” Trump told reporters.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant met separately with Siluanov. According to media reports, during the talks they discussed Trump’s peace plan.
The G20 meeting comes amid strained relations between Washington and its European allies, with European countries seeking to isolate Moscow and limit contacts with its representatives following the start of a full-scale Russian invasion in 2022.
During the meeting, G20 finance ministers also discuss global economic growth, international investment, public debt and supply chains of critical resources.
