Russia is ready to consider the proposals of US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, but is not going to make political concessions. At the same time, Moscow allows for the possibility of economic agreements with Washington.
This is reported by Russian media, citing a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to Lavrov, Moscow is ready to listen to the proposals of the American side, but does not plan to change its political positions for the sake of agreements.
He also stated that Russia does not rule out the possibility of restoring relations with Western countries. At the same time, he said, there will be no return to the format of cooperation that existed before 2022.
Lavrov separately commented on the US sanctions policy. He noted that the Russian authorities do not expect significant changes from the Donald Trump administration regarding restrictions against Russia.
The minister also urged not to overestimate Trump’s decision not to apply the sanctions law. According to him, Washington’s position may change after another president comes to power.
“Another president will come – who knows how he will behave,” Lavrov said.
As a reminder, on October 21, Witkoff is scheduled to travel to St. Petersburg to present the proposals he has developed to the Russian leadership.
