Russia sends people with disabilities and the sick to the front

Russia is increasingly enlisting soldiers with disabilities and chronic illnesses in combat, a move Ukrainian officials say shows the Kremlin’s growing reliance on any human resources to wage war in eastern Ukraine.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
Internal sources in the Russian military have reported cases of people with mental and physical disabilities being sent to the front lines. Ukrainian experts point to the systematic nature of such actions, which resulted in heavy losses for the Russian army and a shortage of trained soldiers.
“Russia will never be left without people. If necessary, they are ready to send to death even those who are unable to fight,” notes Ukrainian soldier Anna (name changed).
One case concerns Semyon Karmanov, who had an intellectual disability and could not read or write. Despite medical contraindications, he was sent to a training camp in occupied Luhansk and issued a military ID. This year, he died at the front.
Another example is Alexey Vakhrushev from western Russia, who had an intellectual disability. He was forcibly conscripted into the military despite a medical certificate of unfitness. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
Ukrainian sources note that such cases are not isolated: prisoners and civilians with health problems are recruited to the front, who, under pressure, sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Ukrainian military personnel report that newly recruited recruits often die almost immediately. One former Russian soldier described casualties in his unit as over 90% in a short period of time.
“They recruit people who know nothing, and they almost immediately become 200 [dead]. You ride over corpses – there is no other way out,” said Ruslan from the 88th reconnaissance and sabotage brigade.
According to Ukrainian military officials, the Kremlin does not view its infantry as people, but as a resource for achieving territorial goals.
“For Russians, this is the norm — they always fight without valuing the lives of their soldiers,” Colonel Alexander Zavtonov concluded.
Ukrainian experts are calling on the international community to pay attention to the Russian Federation’s tactics, which turn people into expendable material for waging war.
