Russia spent dozens of Lancets for a demonstration attack on Kyiv: The Flash revealed the details
Russia used Lancet kamikaze drones during the attack on Kyiv as part of an information operation to demonstrate their use.
This was reported by Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhiy Beskrestnov.
According to him , the Russian side tried at all costs to show the “ successful” use of the “ Lancets” in the capital in order to create an information effect for the domestic audience.
“ The task is to demonstrate to the residents of the Russian Federation and the leadership the wreckage of the Lancet in Kyiv at any cost ,” he noted .
Beskrestnov said that for this purpose the Russian Federation has prepared a combined attack using Lancets and Shahed drones .
According to his estimate, the Russians could have launched about 40 Lancets, despite the fact that these drones are usually used at closer ranges.
The expert explained that the standard Lancet is unable to cover the distance to Kyiv, so the Russians modified the drones – removed the warhead and installed additional batteries.
“The chances of the basic Lancet flying 200 km to Kyiv are zero,” he stressed .
According to Beskrestnov, the drones were launched from a point as close as possible to the capital , waiting for favorable weather conditions.
During the attack, the air targets moved at different altitudes and stretched over a significant area – from Chernihiv region to Kyiv.
Ukrainian air defenses intercepted most of the targets. Only a few drones reached the capital , causing no damage .
At the same time, the wreckage of one of them was recorded in the city center .
Beskrestnov noted that such an operation made no military sense, since the Lancets are an effective weapon on the front, but they were used for a demonstrative attack.
He also added that Ukraine has received additional opportunities to study the technical characteristics of these drones and improve counteraction to small air targets.
Earlier it was reported that Russia attacked Kyiv with drones, air defense forces were working in the capital. The wreckage of the UAV fell in the city center, the consequences of the attack are being recorded in the Shevchenko district, initially without casualties.
