Russia spreads AI fake about attacks on gas stations in Ukraine – CPD

Russian propaganda is spreading a new fake about the consequences of strikes on Ukrainian gas stations. To do this, the occupiers used an artificial intelligence-generated video of an alleged Ukrainian serviceman.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to the Central Intelligence Agency, Russian information resources are distributing a video in which a Ukrainian military officer allegedly demonstrates a destroyed gas station in the Poltava region and claims that due to Russia’s systematic attacks, the situation with the fuel infrastructure is allegedly rapidly deteriorating.

The Center determined that the video was created entirely by artificial intelligence. It was first posted by a TikTok account that pretends to be a Ukrainian military channel. This account has previously distributed similar AI-based fakes.

The CPD emphasized that the goal of this information campaign is to exaggerate the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s fuel infrastructure, create the impression of a large-scale crisis, and sow panic among Ukrainians.
