Russia strikes American company’s plant in Dnipro: 300 tons of oil spills onto roads

Russia attacked the Dnipro River with drones on January 5, damaging a plant owned by the American company Bunge. The strike spilled 300 tons of oil onto city roads, disrupting traffic.

This was announced by the mayor of Dnipro, Borys Filatov.

It is noted that on the morning of January 5, Russian troops carried out a drone attack on the Dnieper River. The strike damaged an enterprise owned by the American company Bunge.

Damage to the tanks caused 300 tons of oil to spill onto city roads, significantly disrupting traffic in the coastal part of the city.

According to city authorities, travel along the Embankment will be impossible for approximately 2–3 days. The attack also caused a fire, damaged cars and a power line.

Municipal services are carrying out work to eliminate the consequences of the impact. Roads are being filled with sand and special mixtures to restore traffic safety.

City authorities urged residents to monitor official resources for changes in public transportation and possible road closures.

The company that was hit is owned by the American company Bunge from St. Louis, Missouri.

Bunge Global SA is a global agribusiness and food company incorporated in Geneva, Switzerland. The company is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

The company is an international exporter of soybeans and is engaged in food processing, grain and fertilizer trading. Bunge is one of the key players in the agro-industrial and food sectors of Ukraine. The company has been operating on the Ukrainian market since 2002.

“We supply a wide range of products to the agri-food market, producing unrefined and refined vegetable oils in bottles and bulk, meal for the feed industry, lecithin, and husks,” the company’s website states.

It is worth adding that Bunge is also the manufacturer of TM “Oleyna”, one of the most popular brands of bottled sunflower oil in Ukraine.

The company also owns an export port terminal and an oil extraction plant in Mykolaiv, an oil extraction plant in Dnipro, as well as 3 elevators located in different regions of the country.

By the way, on the night of January 5 , Russian troops launched another attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure . As a result of the attacks, power outages were recorded in a number of regions.

The day before, it became known that on the afternoon of January 5, Russian troops launched five missile strikes on Kharkiv’s energy infrastructure facilities.

Recall that on the night of January 5, Russia launched strikes on Kyiv , resulting in one person being killed and several injured. The attack also caused significant destruction in the Kyiv region, in particular in the Fastiv district.
