Russia Bombards Kyiv With Missiles and Drones, Killing Three and Injuring Dozens

On the night of Thursday, August 20, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kyiv using strike drones, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. At least eight people were killed and 33 others injured. The Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, and Darnytskyi districts of the capital were among the hardest-hit.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, the Kyiv City Military Administration, and the State Emergency Service reported on the consequences of the shelling.

Initially, the KMVA reported five dead and 23 injured. Later, rescuers pulled out new victims from the rubble, and as of this morning, the death toll had risen to eight. At least 33 people were injured. The rescue operation is ongoing.

According to Klitschko, due to the attack, part of the Svyatoshynskyi and Solomyanskyi districts were left without electricity. Experts are investigating the reasons for the outage.

In the Svyatoshynskyi district, a hit was recorded on the territory of an industrial facility. Large-scale fires broke out in warehouses with an area of up to a thousand square meters. At one of the locations, rescuers found a dead person and carried out the rescue of people from under the rubble.

In the Solomyanskyi district, a nine-story building was seriously damaged—the eighth and ninth floors were destroyed, and a fire broke out. The blast wave also damaged residential buildings, a medical facility, a shop, and garages. People were trapped at several sites and were evacuated by rescuers.

In the Darnytskyi district, an enemy strike hit a non-residential facility. Warehouses and cars in an area of about 1,000 square meters caught fire. Rescuers pulled one person out of the danger zone and handed him over to medics.

Rescuers continue to clear the rubble and search for people. Information about the consequences of the attack is being clarified.
