Russia strikes Poltava region twice: there are dead and dozens injured

On the night of Tuesday, May 5, Russian occupation forces launched a combined missile and drone strike on the Poltava region. The attack resulted in deaths, dozens of injuries, and damage to infrastructure.

As reported by the head of the Poltava OVA, Vitaliy Dyakivnych, the enemy used missiles and strike drones. Direct hits and falling debris were recorded in two locations in the Poltava district.

Industrial facilities and railway infrastructure were hit. The gas system was also damaged, leaving 3,480 subscribers without gas supply.

As of this morning, at least 4 people were killed and 31 injured. The injured are receiving medical care, some of them in serious condition.

Separately, it became known about a second attack on rescue workers during the elimination of the consequences of the attack.

After the first shelling, the State Emergency Service units arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire at the gas production facility. At that moment, Russian troops launched a second missile strike directly at the rescuers.

As a result, two employees of the State Emergency Service — Viktor Kuzmenko and Dmytro Skryl — died.

Three employees of Naftogaz of Ukraine also died. A total of 37 people were injured: 23 rescuers and employees of the enterprise. Three of the injured are in serious condition.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine stated that the attacks on the rescuers were deliberate actions of the enemy. They emphasized that all such war crimes are being documented and will be submitted for international investigation.
